To fully embed the blue economy into the Green Deal and the recovery strategy, the European Commission has adopted a new approach for a sustainable blue economy in the EU. All blue economy sectors including fisheries, aquaculture, coastal tourism, maritime transport, port activities and shipbuilding will have to reduce their environmental and climate impact. This is to achieve the objectives of climate neutrality and zero pollution notably by developing offshore renewable energy, by decarbonising maritime transport and by greening ports. The European Green Deal is the EU's plan to become climate neutral by 2050.
